We went to Soo Locks during the Labor Day weekend. Soo Locks are a set of parallel locks in upper peninsula that enable ships to travel between Lake Superior and the lower Great Lakes (Wiki). It was fun to watch large freighters pass through the locks on their journey to/from Lake Superior. This was our first time at Soo Locks, and first time in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. It was definitely worth seeing, and we’ll come back as couldn’t fully explore the city of Sault Ste. Marie (pronounced Soo Saint Marie).
To actually experience the locks, you’ve to take a ferry, which starts at Sault Ste Marie. The fare is $30 per adult, and children under 5 are free. We booked the Original Soo Locks Boat Tour.
