Mutton (Goat) Curry Recipe

This is my Indian favorite. The typical red meat in India is Goat meat and it’s called mutton. This goat curry is spicy and very tasty. Bonus it’s very easy to make if you have a pressure cooker like Instant Pot.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb of goat meat (Frozen is OK)
  • 1/4 cup Meat Masala – I like Shaan Meat Masala. You can get it at any Indian store
  • 2 cups sliced onions
  • 1 cup tomato purée. I prefer purée with ginger, garlic and green chili in it already
  • 1/4 cup canola oil (or any other oil you prefer)
  • 1 tsp Turmeric
  • 2 tsp Salt (or as preferred)

Instructions

  • Put meat, onions, canola oil, salt and turmeric in the Instant Pot. Pressure cook high for 5-7 minutes
  • After pressure cooking is done. Set the Instant Pot to sauté and cook the meat for 10 minutes, stirring from time to time
  • Add meat masala. Stir and sauté for 5-10 mins ensuring the meat does not stick to the bottom of the pan
  • Add tomato purée, stir and sauté until tomatoes are cooked (oil starts to separate)
  • After that put water as needed for curry
  • Pressure cook high on 4 mins
  • Add cilantro for garnish

Variation with chicken

You can use this recipe for Chicken also. Chicken will cook faster than goat meat. Therefore, reduce the first high pressure cook to only 3-5 minutes, and 2nd time pressure cook for only 2-3 minutes. Also before putting in pressure cooker gently sauté each piece in a pan
